DRS cricket meaning description
In cricket, DRS stands for Decision Review System.
Details
The Decision Review System (DRS) is a technology-based system used in cricket to assist the on-field umpires in making decisions regarding their calls on the field. It allows players to challenge the umpire’s decision by requesting a review of a particular decision using technology.
DRS mainly consists of three components: ball-tracking technology (Hawk-Eye), audio tracking (UltraEdge), and infrared cameras (Hot Spot). These technologies help in providing additional information to the third umpire, who reviews the decision and communicates the outcome to the on-field umpire.
The system is used for decisions regarding dismissals (e.g., LBW, caught behind) and boundaries (e.g., determining if the ball has crossed the boundary). However, its use is subject to certain limitations and rules, such as the number of unsuccessful reviews a team can make per innings.
