Parts of Sentences
Sentence Components – Until now, we’ve explored the various types of sentences. Now, let’s delve into the divisions of a sentence. A sentence is typically segmented into two parts: –
- SUBJECT
- PREDICATE
Subject:
The element that identifies the person or thing being discussed in a sentence is termed the subject.
वह भाग जो किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान करता है, उसे वाक्य का विषय कहा जाता है।
Example:
A cheerful dog wagged its tail.
In this sentence, the subject is “A cheerful dog.”
Predicate:
The portion that conveys information about the subject is known as the predicate of the sentence.
जो हिस्सा Subject के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान करता है, उसे वाक्य का विषय कहा जाता है, और जो इसके बारे में कुछ बताता है, उसे तथ्य प्रदाता Predicate कहलाता है।
Example:
A cheerful dog wagged its tail.
In this sentence, the predicate is “wagged its tail.”
The Predicate and its Components
(i) Verb (क्रिया)
A verb is a term that indicates the actions of a person, animal, or object. Verbs convey activity, earning them the designation of action words.
(ii) Object (कर्म)
The object is the individual or entity impacted by the action of the verb.
(iii) Complement (पूरक)
This is a term, clause, or phrase essential for concluding a given expression. For instance, consider the sentence “This morning is a gift.” Here, “This morning” serves as the subject, “is” functions as the linking verb, and “a gift” acts as the complement.
